In the Mood

Remembering the US Marines stationed in Paekakariki during WWII...

In 1942 thousands of US Marines arrived in Wellington for training and R&R before going off to face the horrors of war in the Pacific. More than 20,000 marines were stationed at Queen Elizabeth Park in Paekakariki, and were taken into the hearts and homes of local families.

In the Mood presents American wartime favourites sung by Joanne Hodgson and members of the Wellington vocal ensemble Nota Bene. Featuring songs by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington, plus hits made famous by The Andrews Sisters and the Glen Miller Big Band, this event will have your toes tapping to some '40s nostalgia.

2.30pm Sunday 3 July
